Gwinnett County
A small home on the southeast edge of Gwinnett County.
The Joy is a licensed personal care home with memory care in Loganville, right where Gwinnett meets Walton County. It's about ten minutes from Grayson and twelve from Snellville. There are 24 suites, and Mellissa Daniel runs the house.
What a Gwinnett search turns up
Search for assisted living in Gwinnett County and the list is long. You'll find big senior buildings all over the county, with long hallways and a dining room that seats a crowd. Some families tour one and feel right at home. If that suits your mom, it's a fine choice.
Other families walk out worried. They picture Dad as one more door on a long hall. Those families tend to keep looking for something smaller.
In Georgia, smaller often means a licensed personal care home. That's what The Joy is. One house with 24 suites. Everyone eats at the same table, and the same team sees your dad every day. They learn his whole story, and they notice when something is off.
Memory care is part of the license, throughout the home. The whole house is secured. There isn't a separate wing your dad gets moved into later. If his memory changes, he stays in the house he already knows, with people who already know him.
Big is easy to find. Small takes a little more looking.
Where we are, from four Gwinnett towns
The Joy is on Conyers Road in Loganville. That's Walton County, right on the Gwinnett line. For a lot of Gwinnett families, it's closer than it sounds.
From Grayson it's about ten minutes down Highway 20. From Snellville it's about twelve minutes east on US 78. From Dacula it's about fifteen minutes. From Lawrenceville it's about twenty, south on Highway 20 through Grayson.
Close matters more than people expect. When your mom is fifteen minutes away, you stop putting visits on the calendar. You stop by after work because you can.
If your dad is at Piedmont Eastside or Northside Gwinnett
A lot of these decisions start in a hospital room. A doctor says your dad can't go home alone, and the discharge planner wants a plan by Friday.
Call us from the hospital. Piedmont Eastside is about twenty minutes from the house, and Northside Gwinnett is about thirty. When we can, Mellissa does the assessment the same day, and she can come to his bedside. Then she'll tell you plainly whether The Joy fits what he needs.
If you're not ready to decide on a permanent move, ask about respite. A respite stay runs from a few days to a few weeks, with the same care every resident gets. Some families use it as the bridge home from the hospital. Others use it to see whether The Joy fits before they decide anything.
Hospice and home health are welcome in the house, so a new need doesn't automatically mean a new move.
If you're still caring for a parent at home
Not every Gwinnett family is ready to talk about a move. Some are doing the caregiving themselves, every day, and it's wearing thin.
A caregiver support group meets at The Joy on the third Thursday of every month at 2pm. It's free. You don't need a parent living with us, and you don't need to be thinking about a move. Come once and see if it helps.
What it costs
We publish our prices. Personal care starts at $5,500 a month, and memory care starts at $6,000. Mellissa sets the exact rate after she meets your parent, because it depends on the care they need.
The rate covers the suite, three cooked meals a day, help with bathing, dressing and medications, housekeeping and laundry, and someone awake all night. One number, one check.

What Gwinnett families ask us
The Joy is just over the county line in Loganville, on the southeast edge of Gwinnett. It has 24 suites in one house. Wherever you look, ask each home for its license type and number. Georgia's inspection reports are public, and ours are linked from our About page.
Mostly size. The Joy has 24 suites in one house, and the same caregivers see the same residents every day. A certified medication aide is on staff 24 hours a day, overnight included, and medications are counted at every shift change. A nurse is on site 24 hours a week, spread across three days. A nurse isn't here overnight, and we'd rather you hear that from us.
Grayson is about ten minutes away. Snellville is about twelve, Dacula about fifteen, and Lawrenceville about twenty.
Often, yes, if a suite is open and The Joy fits what your parent needs. Call from the hospital. Mellissa does a same-day assessment when she can, at the bedside if that helps, and the move can often happen the next day. If we're not the right fit, she'll say so.
On the Gwinnett line, and small on purpose. Come look around.
